Alan's heart was captured by Jesus Christ while a student at the University of Washington. His mentor, Earl Palmer, encouraged him to heed God's call to ministry. After earning his Masters of Divinity degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary, Alan served pastorates in Washington State for nine years before being called to Westminster in 1979. He and his wife, Carol, have been married since 1965. They are blessed with three children and
four grandchildren. Alan's Presbyterian roots run deep in the soil of his family's native Scotland. His theology continues to be shaped in particular by the works of Karl Barth and C. S. Lewis. His commitment to Christ is expressed in his sound biblical preaching, his teaching, and his love of dramatic literature. Having led pilgrimages to the Holy Land, participating in Westminster's annual Mexico Missions, and through recent exposure to the work of organizations like World Vision, Alan has a growing interest in fostering meaningful ties between Westminster and the Church in the world.
Christopher
Ward, Associate Pastor
of Congregational Care
Chris
is a Northwest native, born in Seattle and raised on Whidbey Island,
WA. A graduate of Whitworth College, Chris majored in Theater and
Music, with an emphasis in vocal performance. He was ready to set out
on a career in musical theater when he was sidetracked into youth
ministry. It did not take long before he knew that he could not be
content doing anything but serving the church. He and his wife Julie
packed their things and left for Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where
Chris earned his Master of Divinity. They adopted their daughter Imani
from Kenya the month Chris finished at PTS, and spent a few more years
doing youth work and settling in to parenthood. On the day of
Pentecost 2003, their son Andrew arrived on the scene, and the
following month Chris accepted the call to become the Associate Pastor
of Congregational Care here at Westminster. Chris comes to us with a
passion for ministry, a caring heart, and a firm commitment to equip
the church for service in the world.
