Westminster Cooperative Preschool was established in 1972 and is
an outreach program of Westminster Presbyterian Church. It is
non-doctrinal and welcomes children from all cultures and religious
backgrounds. The preschool is a cooperative organization under the
supervision of teaching staff.
Registration for the 2008-2009 school year will begin in March. During the month of March, registration will be open to current
enrollees, siblings of current and former enrollees and members of
Westminster Church. Registration will open to the public on April 1,
2008.
Westminster Cooperative Preschool will start the 2008-2009 year early
in September, 2008.
Guidelines:
All preschoolers are expected to be fully toilet trained and must be
up to date on immunizations.
Westminster Cooperative Preschool is a parent cooperative. An
adult family member should be available to help in the classroom
approximately once every three to four weeks.
For the 2008-2009 school year, a child
must be 3 years old by September 1, 2008
to be in a T/TH class and 4 years old by September 1,
2008 to be in a M/W/F class. Preschool
hours are 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Activities for Children
The teachers plan an environment and activities that are
developmentally appropriate for 3, 4 and 5 year olds centered
around the child's need for social, emotional, physical and cognitive
experiences.
Exploratory play in the classroom, toys for fine motor
development, dramatic play, water play, sand, building blocks, book
area.
Calendar time, sharing, stories, discussion and singing.
Art experience with the emphasis on process not product.
Snack time. A time for sharing, talking and listening. Snacks are
provided by the helping parent.
Active play in our on-site play yard. A time for large motor skill
activities indoors as well as outside.
Staff
Sandi Schmor, Linda Higgins, Jan Sinner, Shawn Retzlaff and
Betsy Whispell are teachers. Each is helped every class day by one
or two parents depending on class size.
Teachers are members of the National Association for the
Education of Young Children. Each has a baccalaureate degree.
Preschool classrooms are located in the education wing of
Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Drive. The
classrooms are large, open and well furnished.
Visitors are welcome to stop by between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m.
Registration and Fees
There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee paid annually at
registration.
Tuition for 3-year-olds is $75/month. Tuition for 4-year-olds is $95/month.
